Several hundred workers of a closed apparel factory staged demonstration and temporarily blockaded the Dhaka-Mymansingh Road Tuesday demanding payment of their arrears salaries and bonus.
The agitated workers of Roots Apparels in Uttar Khan gathered at Azampur and started staging demonstration. They put barricades on the Dhaka Mymensingh road halting traffic from 3pm to 4:30pm.
Sources said the owner closed the factory about a month ago when some 900 workers of the factory started movement demanding payment of their arrear salaries.
Police of Uttara thana rushed to the spot and charged baton to disperse the angry workers who in retaliation attacked police with brickbats that left at least 20 people injured.
Traffic resumed after police cleared the barricade at about 4.40pm.
