A weeklong roadshow began on Friday from southern Tekhnaf resort town to create awareness among people about agriculture loans and measures against money laundering.
The roadshow also aims to educate people on financing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and sending remittances using banking channel instead of illegal 'hundi' system.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Atiur Rahman formally inaugurated the roadshow that will pass through 13 spots across the country in eight days and is scheduled to be concluded at Tentulia in the northern Panchagarh district on April 2.
A colourful motorcade started its journey from Tekhnaf under Cox's Bazar district immediately after the launching the ceremony. The roadshow styled 'Unnayaner Abhijatra-Teknaf to Tentulia' has now reached the country's port city, Chittagong.
"We're committed to serve the people… The commercial banks will also continue their efforts for the development of the country and the welfare of the people," the central bank chief said while speaking at the inaugural function. "It's our pledge on the independence day," he added.
The event aimed at involving people from all section of the society to achieve a desired economic growth, which remained unfulfilled even after three decades of independence.
The central bank chief said the roadshow will teach the people about how to get agriculture loans and loans for small and medium enterprises easily.
