Rohingya set six conditions for repatriation

COX'S BAZAR, Nov 01: The Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar camps have set six conditions for repatriation to Myanmar.

During the Bangladesh-Myanmar Joint Working Group (JWG) delegation's visit to the refuge camps on Wednesday the Rohingya there submitted the six conditions to Myanmar Foreign Secretary Myint Thu.

According to sources, Rohingya refugee leaders raised the conditions during the JWG delegation's visit to Kutupalong.

The six conditions are: 1. Rohingya refugees will have to return to their own land and settlements. It has to be guaranteed before repatriation. 2. Their citizenship has been taken away by the Myanmar government. Citizenship has to be returned. 3. The Rakhine state will have to judge the brutality and genocide against the Rohingyas. 4. Rohingyas will not stay in any camp after repatriation to homeland. They will live in their own settlements. 5. Strict security should be ensured in Rohingya-inhabited Rakhine state so that they do not fall victim to torture any more. 6. All conditions will be announced by the Myanmar government before the international media.

When contacted, Rohingya leaders Master Abdur Rahim and Fayez Ullah told reporters that they submitted the conditions to the Myanmar foreign secretary. He told them that he would convey the conditions to his government.
