Terming the devastating fire at Sitakunda's B.M. Container Depot an incident of killings, opposition lawmakers have demanded immediate action against owner of the private depot.
At the parliamentary session on Monday, BNP lawmaker from a reserved seat Barrister Rumeen Farhana said the horrific fire that took away lives of too many people was an outcome of the 'culture of injustice'.
Recalling another devastating fire incident that took place nine years ago in the city's Nimtoli area, she said no case was filed in that tragic incident which killed 124 people in 2013.
She also recalled another tragic fire at Churihatta in Old Dhaka, saying the nation witnessed one more devastating fire (with huge loss of lives).
Despite these deadly incidents, the government has not yet relocated the chemical warehouses from the residential areas, she mentioned.
"I am very surprised that nobody is yet to file any case against the depot owner (at Sitakunda). Why? Because he a senior leader of the ruling party in Chattogram," she said.
"It is not an accident. It's murder because the depot authority illegally stored the chemical there and they did not let the firefighters get information about the chemical," she added.
Jatiya Party lawmaker Abu Hossain from Dhaka-4 Constituency called upon the government to investigate the Sitakunda incident and take action against people responsible.
He suggested for increasing budgetary allocation for fire service department and empowering them to deal with critical fire incidents like the BM Container Depot.
