Dhaka will host an international maritime and logistics forum in the second week of this month (October) in an effort to boost the shipping sector related trade and industry of south Asian countries.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the Second South Asia Maritime and Logistics Forum-2018 as the chief guest on October 09, said a source of Shippers' Council of Bangladesh (SCB).
Organised by Ministry of Shipping in association with Maritime Gateway, India and CIMC Events, the two-day event will be held at Hotel Le Meridien, Dhaka.
Minister, secretary and higher officials of shipping sector related trade and industry of 20 countries including India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Nepal will attend the event.
Development and possible investment in the shipping sector, solution of barriers in regional trade, ship building including dredging and others related to the sector will be discussed in the two-day forum.
"As a Bay of Bengal ocean economy, connecting India, Myanmar, Nepal and China, Bangladesh offers many opportunities in manufacturing, distribution, logistics and shipping being connected to economic landscape covering India, Nepal and beyond," an industry source said.
The Forum's first edition was held in Mumbai in September, 2017.
Meanwhile, a board meeting of Shippers' Council of Bangladesh (SCB) on Sunday decided to be the Gold Sponsor of "2nd South Asia Maritime & Logistics Forum-2018"
Md. Rezaul Karim, chairman of the SCB chaired the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the existing problem and other issues connected with to boost trade of the country.
The meeting also took decision for holding an extra-ordinary general meeting (EGM) for amendment of SCB Memorandum and Articles of Association in compliance with a statutory regulatory order, published by DTO, Ministry of Commerce and also approved SCB accounts statement.
Senior Vice Chairman Ariful Ahsan, Vice Chairman Md. Munir Hossain and Directors Arzu Rahman Bhuiyan, Kamran Uddin, Afsar Uddin Ahmed, A. K. M. Aminul Mannan (Khokon), Md. Nurussafa Babu and Ziaul Islam attended the meeting.
