The chief judicial magistrate in Shillong has sent BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed to judicial custody, reports bdnews24.com.
Meghalaya Police, however, did not ask the court during Wednesday's hearing for permission to remand him in their custody.
Even the public prosecutor was conspicuous by his absence at the court of judge KML Nongbri.
The judge ordered the police to conduct Salahuddin's health check-up before taking him into judicial custody.
The BNP joint secretary general was brought to the court earlier in the day amidst tight security.
Salahuddin to remain in judicial custody for 14 days
