Eid shoppers are crowding markets to buy matching accessories, including tupi, attar and ornaments, as a couple of days has left to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, traders have said.

However, they said, the sales remain lower than that of their expectations due to inflationary pressure on the consumers.

During visits to several shopping hubs, including Baitul Mukarram gate, Bashundhara City and Karwan Bazar area, on Sunday, this correspondent found both buyers and sellers busy with item selection, bargain and financial transactions.

Many female shoppers were seen occupied with engrossed searching jewellery items matching with their Eid attires, while male shoppers were looking for Islamic caps and pyjamas in tune with their panjabis.

Humayun Kabir, a buyer at a street-side market in Karwan Bazar, said he was looking for three tupis for himself and two sons so that they can go to Eidgah in a befitting manner.

"Actually, I bought nothing myself for this Eid due to higher prices of almost everything, but are now trying to add some colour to the festivity buying the tupi," he said.

Albeit, he said, he was struggling to meet his budget and items as per his choice. Kazi Nazrul Islam, a tupi seller at the southern gate of Baitul Mukarram, said people were buying less compared to their crowding.

"We're getting a good number of visitors since Friday resulting in moderately higher sales," he said.

Tupi prices ranged between Tk 100 to Tk 800 at his shops, he said, adding that in addition to local manufacturing, some tupis are imported from India, Pakistan and Indonesia.

Along with tupi, sales of Jaynamaj, tasbi, and attar also increased, he said.

An attar seller, Tanveer Ahmed, said most people buy 3.0 millilitre (ml), 5.0 ml and 8.0 ml capacity bottle.

Depending on quality and ingredients the price of per 3.0ml perfume varies between Tk 50 to Tk 500.

However, some upscale perfumeries were selling quality attar as high as Tk 20,000 per tola or 12ml.

Meanwhile, different types of ornaments such as bangles, bracelets, earrings, nose pin, necklace, head band for kids, footwear and waist belt for males were also selling.

A salesperson at a shop named KZ located in the Bashundhara City Shopping Complex said they were selling mostly-imported ornaments made of metals and stone.

"We took adequate preparations with a huge inventory so that shoppers can buy their all accessories from one place," he said. During the visits, some shops were seen offering discounts on their merchandise at varied rates to get cash before Eid.

The government has declared the Eid holiday from April 10 (Wednesday) as the Eid may take place on April 11 (Thursday) following 30 days of Ramadan.
