The visiting team of the Saudi prince is yet to get any appointment with the officials of the finance ministry and the privatisation commission (PC), the two government bodies involved in divestment of largely state-owned Rupali Bank.
Talking to the FE, a senior official of the finance ministry said his ministry was not informed about the arrival of the members of the negotiating team of Saudi prince until Monday.
Two representatives of Saudi prince Bandar Bin Mohammad Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, the highest bidder of the Rupali Bank arrived in Dhaka Sunday for final negotiation on purchase of a majority portion of the bank's share.
"I am not aware about any appointment from the representatives of the Saudi prince with the officials of the finance ministry," the senior finance ministry official told the FE Monday.
Echoing the statement of the finance ministry official the PC chairman Abu Solaiman Chowdhury also said he was also not informed about the arrival of a two-member negotiating team on behalf of the Saudi prince.
When contacted, the representatives of the Saudi prince declined to talk to newspaper reporters.
"The PC is ready to handover the bank to the highest bidder. But we need written assurance in this connection from the Saudi prince," Abu Solaiman Chowdhury said.
