Saudi university offers 50 scholarships for Bangladeshi students

King Saud University of Saudi Arabia has announced 50 scholarships for Bangladeshi students, particularly to the students, who are the children of Grameen Bank borrowers, reports UNB.
The first batch of students can be sent to study at King Saud University immediately. Students can get scholarships for any subject.The University authority announced the scholarships on September 6 at a ceremony honouring Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, the founder of Grameen Bank.
During the ceremony, the university authority also formally appointed Prof. Yunus honorary Professor of the university in the department of economics.
Prof. Yunus will be entitled to all privileges of a regular faculty member of the university, including accommodation. King Saud University will send students from the university to undertake researches in Bangladesh under the supervision of Prof. Yunus.
The microcredit pioneer will also be included in various committees of the university.
He has been invited to send his ideas and proposals to improve the academic programme of the university.
The university also announced creation of the Muhammad Yunus Chair in honour of Prof. Yunus. A Professor will soon be appointed in this chair in consultation with Prof. Yunus.
Prof. Yunus was also honoured Friday in separate ceremonies by the Saudi Council of Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Bangladeshi community in Riyadh.
