FE Report
Scarcity of agri-inputs will pose threat to achieving the target of food security.
Stating this at a press conference Sunday Bangladesh Krishak Samity (BKS) accused the government of failing to ensure the supply of fertiliser, quality seeds and power.
Addressing the press conference at Mukti Bhaban, BKS leaders urged the government to make the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Cooperation (BADC) active to ensure supply of quality seeds to farmers in due time.
BKS secretary Morshed Ali also urged the government to supply fertiliser at a reduced price.
"During a field visit across the country, we found that farmers got poor quality paddy seeds this year certain to affect paddy output," he said.
About fertiliser price, BKS leaders alleged that fertilisers were being sold at exorbitant prices due to lack of government's monitoring.
A section of dealers, they alleged, were selling TSP fertiliser at Tk 80 per kg instead of Tk 38 as fixed by the government.
BKS executive president SMA Sabur and vice president Nazrul Islam Selim, among others, also attended at the press conference.
