Schedule for election of BNP chairperson announced

Election schedule for the post of BNP chairperson was formally announced Tuesday ahead of its fifth national council on December 8, reports UNB.
Justice TH Khan, chairman of the three-member election commission for BNP chairperson election 2009, announced the schedule at a press conference at the party's Naya Paltan central office at around 11am.
The other members of the election commission Abdur Rezak Khan and M Sanaullah Mia, and assistant returning officer Abdul Mannan were present at the press conference.
According to the schedule, the dates of collection and submission of nomination paper have been fixed Tuesday (December 1) and Wednesday (December 2).
The nomination papers will be scrutinised Thursday (December 3) while Friday (December 4) is set for withdrawing of nomination papers. The nomination paper can be withdrawn until 5:00pm on December 4.
The minimum age of the aspirant for the post of chairperson is 30.
Election of the party's chairperson is on December 8, the day of BNP' s national council.
The election commission has appointed BNP standing committee member RA Gani as returning officer and former state minister Abdul Mannan as assistant returning officer to conduct the election.
Asked about announcement of election schedule of other office bearers of the BNP central executive committee including secretary general, Justice TH Khan said there was no such provision in the existing party constitution.
