Sector Commander Nuruzzaman passes away

Lt Col (retd) ANM Kazi Nuruzzaman, Bir Uttam, a valiant freedom fighter and Commander of Sector No 7 during the War of Liberation in 1971, died of old age complications at Square Hospitals in the city at 10:15 am Friday, report agencies. Sector Commander He was 86. After hearing the death news, a large number of freedom fighters, political leaders, relatives and well-wishers rushed to the hospital. The body of Nuruzzaman would be kept at BIRDEM mortuary, his son-in-law Shahidullah Khan Badal told the news agency. On Saturday, it would be kept at the Central Shaheed Minar for two hours from 10:30 am for public viewing and paying last respects. The war veteran would be buried at the Dhaka Cantonment's freedom fighter's graveyard in state honour later that day. Lt Col Nuruzzaman led the sector comprising Rajshahi, Bogra and Pabna regions from September to December 1971. President M Zillur Rahman expressed deep shock at the death of Lt Col (retd) ANM Kazi Nuruzzaman. In a condolence message, the President said contribution of Nuruzzaman to the Great War of Liberation in 1971 is immense as a sector commander.
