Police recovered the body of a security guard inside an ATM booth of Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) in cantonment police station area in the city with slit marks in the throat of the deceased Monday morning.

The deceased identified as Touhidul Islam, 20, permanent resident of Bagerhat district, was found dead inside a booth of EBL near Siraj-Khaleda Memorial Hospital, Cantonment police sources said.

He was a security guard of Globe Security Services, the appointed security agency of EBL.

However, police immediately couldn't know the motive behind the killing and information of any looting in the booth.

The dead body was first seen when another guard came to take the duty charge in the booth post. Later, he informed the cantonment police station, police source said.

Finally, police recovered the body with slit marks in Tauhidul Islam's throat and sent it to Dhaka Medical College & Hospital for autopsy, said Umme Salma, duty officer of Cantonment Police station.

She added that senior police officials visited the spot and held meeting to investigate into the incident.

Police have had the CCTV camera information which they believe will help find the story behind the incident, said Officer in-charge of Cantonment Police station.

He said police was trying to contact the deceased's family members. In case of failure to contact them, the police will file case regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, EBL in a statement said the matter is under investigation by the concerned law enforcing agencies.

"EBL also confirms that there was no loss of money from the said ATM booth during the incident," the statement added.
