Serajul Alam Khan no more

Serajul Alam Khan, one of the main organisers of the Liberation War, passed away Friday. He was 82, report agencies.

He passed away around 2:30 pm on Friday while undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Director of the hospital Brig Gen Md Nazmul Haque confirmed the matter.

Serajul was put on life support in the ICU of DMCH on Thursday after his health condition deteriorated.

Widely known as "Dada" and "Dadabhai", Serajul was born on January 6, 1941.

He was a founding member of Swadhin Bangla Biplobi Parishad alias Nucleus. He founded and led Mujib Bahini (aka BLF) with Tofael Ahmed, Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni, and Abdur Razzaq.

Meanwhile, Serajul Alam Khan will be buried at Begumganj in Noakhali today.

The first namaz-e-janaza of Serajul Alam will be held at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the city at 10 am today, a Jatiya Samajtatnrik Dal (Jasad) press release said.

At 11 am, his body will be taken to  Dhaka University and then the body will be sent to his ancestral home of Alipur village under Begumganj in Noakhali.

After the second janaza, Serajul Alam Khan will be buried next to the grave of his mother at his family graveyard there.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin expressed deep shock at the death of Serajul Alam Khan.

In a condolence message, the Head of the State prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family.

Our correspondent adds, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock at the death of Serajul Alam Khan.

In a message of condolence issued on Friday he conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family members.

He said that late Serajul Alam Khan will remain alive in our memory.
