Seven ASEAN envoys meet DNCC mayor

Ambassadors of seven ASEAN countries on Sunday paid a courtesy call on Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam at his office in the city's Gulshan area.
The envoys were Heru Hartanto Subolo from Indonesia, Harris Othman from Brunei, Hasnah binti Dato' Mohammed Hashim from Malaysia, Pham Viet Chien from Vietnam, Makawadee Sumitmor from Thailand, Alan L. Deniega from Philippines and Sheela Pillai, consular of Singapore, according to a statement.
ASEAN-Dhaka Committee (ADC) was formed aiming to enhance mutual cooperation between the ASEAN countries and Dhaka, says the statement.
Chairman of ADC Heru Hartanto Subolo praised the DNCC mayor for giving special focus on various affairs of public interest and public services.
"The ADC members will undertake various programmes to enhance bilateral relations between the eight ASEAN countries and Dhaka," he said, adding: "We want to implement tree planting programme in Dhaka at the beginning," the ADC chief added.
The meeting decided to implement the tree planting programme in August.
Welcoming the envoys, the DNCC mayor said the members of ADC will be able to exchange knowledge and experiences with each other by building the concept of 'Sister City'. The meeting also shared experiences of footpath management.
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Selim Reza and other high officials were present on the occasion. Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional platform.
