Sheikh Hasina, Inu, Menon among others sued

Three more cases were filed on Monday against Sheikh Hasina, her cabinet members and police high-ups for committing crimes against humanity, mass killing and murder.

A petition has been filed with the International Crimes Tribunal against Hasina and 26 others for genocide perpetrated between July 15 and August 05.

They have been accused of planning and instructing indiscriminate shooting and killing of unarmed students countrywide during the quota-reform movement.

Genocide and crimes against humanity have been committed by indiscriminate firing on unarmed protesters as per plans and instructions of the accused, including Hasina, reads the case statement.

Abul Hasan, father of Shahriar Hasan Alvi, a ninth-grader of Mirpur Desh Polytechnic College who was killed in police firing on August 04 during a programme of the student movement, filed the plea.

Lawyer Md Asad Uddin, who submitted the petition on behalf of Mr Hasan, confirmed the update.

Other accused in the case are politicians Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Haq Inu, Anwar Hossain Monju, Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Kamal, Anisul Huq, Salman F Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Mohammad A Arafat, Kamal Ahmed Majumder and Syed Najibul Bashar Maizbhandari.

Police officials include former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, ex-DG of Rab Harun-Ar-Rahsid, former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman and former DB chief Harun-or-Rashid.

Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League and other front organisations of the party, many unidentified members of these outfits and policemen have also made accused in the petition.

The investigation officer of the tribunal said they received three petitions of complaints and all were registered.

On August 14, law adviser Dr Asif Nazrul said the interim government would initiate trying the killings that took place during the student protest at the International Crimes Tribunal. After his announcement, different individuals started to file cases with the tribunal.

Meanwhile, Hasina and a total of 214 others were sued on Monday in two more murder cases filed over deaths during recent protests in Mirpur-10 area.

Hasina and 66 others were sued for the death of Jubo Dal leader Abdullah Kabir Khan (50) in front of Ideal School at Mirpur-10 on August 04.

The victim's wife, Afsana Akhter Islam, filed the case with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court.

Quader, Asaduzzaman, Kamal Majumder, Nikhil, Abdullah Al-Mamun, Harun, Habibur and ex-joint commissioner of DMP Biplob Kumar Sarkar are among the accused.

Magistrate Mehedi Hasan asked the officer-in-charge of Mirpur Model Police Station to register the complaint as a first information report (FIR).

In another case, Hasina and 147 others were sued for killing ninth-grader Liton Hasan at Mirpur-10 intersection on August 04. The victim's brother, Md Milon, lodged the case with the same court that also asked the OC to register the complaint as an FIR.

With the latest cases, Hasina, who quit as premier and fled to India on August 05, now faces 20 cases, including 17 for murder, one for abduction and two for committing crimes against humanity and genocide.
