Shibir cadre killed in \\\'encounter\\\' with cops

CHITTAGONG, Sept 5: One person, allegedly a notorious criminal, was killed and two others injured in an encounter with the police at Shamsherpara under Chandgaon police station in the city on Saturday.

Arman Hazari (30), who was killed in the encounter, was reportedly an Islami Chhatra Shibir cadre and accomplice of Shibir cadre Sajjad who is now under arrest in India.

Police said acting on a tip-off they raided the Shamsherpara area and arrested Arman, an accused in 23 criminal cases, in the early hours of Saturday.

Following his confession about having firearms in his den, the police team took him with them to recover arms in the area where accomplices of Arman Hazari fired on the police.

In the counter fire of the police two of the accomplices of Arman and Arman himself were critically injured. They were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 3:30 am. The physicians declared Arman dead. Two of his accomplices were undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The police also recovered three locally-made guns (LG) from the scene. DC (north) Paritosh Ghose of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) said there were 23 criminal cases and more than 50 GDs (general diaries) against Arman.
