FE Report
A nor'wester accompanied by a brief shower lashed the capital Monday evening marking an end to a long dry spell and providing the city-dwellers the much-needed respite.
The sudden but much-awaited rainfall came after days of sweltering weather conditions in the capital as well as across the country which routinely sees the mercury rising over 41 degrees Celsius.
The rains caught homebound city-dwellers mostly from the working class off-guard, as they had come out of doors without umbrellas or raincoats.
"I was unaware of today's weather prediction, so I had to get soaked while waiting for a bus," Kamal Ahmed, a private banker, told the FE.
"Although it created unexpected hassle for people like me, but I welcome this change in weather, as it has rid us from the hot wave for the time being," he said.
Some youths, however, were seen making most of the rainfall as they went on with their outdoor business drenched in rain.
The met office had earlier forecast that rain or thundershower accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely at one or two places in the country, including the capital Monday.
The capital witnessed 11mm of rainfall till filing of this report at 9:00pm, said a Met official adding that rains were also reported in Iswardi and Sylhet.
