FE REPORT | June 27, 2024 00:00:00

A special shuttle bus service of the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) was launched at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital on Wednesday as part of its efforts to enhance service-oriented operations.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader attended the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan was special guest.

The Airport Shuttle Bus Service, operated with two BRTC buses, aims to provide baggage transportation facilities for incoming and outgoing passengers.

The service will be operated from Terminal-2 to Airport Railway Station, covering the airport roundabout, Uttara Jashim Uddin Road, and Terminal-3.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, BRTC Chairman Md Tazul Islam said, "We've seen many expatriate workers face difficulty in finding transportation with heavy luggage, especially upon arrival at the airport. The new shuttle service will allow carrying 40-50 kg luggage."

According to the airport authorities, the service is expected to improve passengers' movement and safety. Each bus has 25 seats and includes separate luggage storage facilities.

The two shuttle buses, built with BRTC's technical expertise, are air-conditioned and equipped with luggage transportation facilities, security systems, free Wi-Fi, and special boarding and alighting facilities for senior citizens and persons with special needs. The arrangement of launching these special buses was completed at BRTC's integrated central repair factory in Gazipur.

Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, and HSIA Executive Director Group Captain Muhammed Kamrul, among others, were also present at the programme.
