SI held for killing ‘jhoot’ trader

Police arrested a sub-inspector (SI) of Mirpur Police Station in the city on Wednesday afternoon in connection with the killing of a 'jhoot' (garment leftover) trader.

Duty officer of the police station SI Mizanur Rahman confirmed the detention, saying that SI Jahidur Rahman Khan was arrested for his alleged involvement in torturing the jhoot trader - Mahbubur Rahman Sujan - to death Sunday.

Sujan was picked up from his Shankar residence early Sunday by a team of Mirpur police, led by SI Jahidur. He was allegedly beaten up by the policeman at the police station and subsequently died in police custody next morning.
