Sirajganj Jamaat announces hartal for tomorrow

SIRAJGANJ, Feb 2 (UNB): Local unit of Jamaat-e-Islami called a daylong hartal in the district for Wednesday protesting the death of a Jamaat leader in police custody after his arrest on Monday.

The shutdown was announced in a statement by district unit Jamaat secretary Jahidul Islam.

Earlier, Saidul Islam, 48, secretary of Bakua union unit of Jamaat, who was arrested after a clash with police at Bakua village in Ullahpara upazila on Sunday, died at Sirajganj General Hospital early Monday.

Superintendent of police of the district Emran Hossain said on secret information, a team of police conducted a drive in the area where a group of Jamaat leaders and activists were holding a clandestine meeting on Sunday evening.
