Cabinet secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid, who had been preparing to host the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected lawmakers at the Bangabhaban, has been replaced, reports bdnews24.com.
In a statement on Saturday,
the Cabinet Division said the remaining term of Rashid's contractual appointment as cabinet secretary, granted on Oct 8, 2024, had been cancelled "in public interest", with immediate effect.
Rashid, responding to bdnews24.com, claimed he had already resigned a few days ago and that "it's just been accepted today".
M Siraz Uddin Miah, who has been serving as principal secretary at the Chief Advisor's Office, was appointed as his successor in a separate announcement.
The changes come at a sensitive administrative moment, as the country prepares for the formation of a new government following the general election.
