Six aspirants seek to bid for 450mw Bibiyana power plant

The government Thursday received qualification statements from six applicants interested in bidding for the 450-megawatt (MW) Bibiyana power plant project, a press release said.
They are Korea Electric Power Corporation of South Korea, AES Corporation of USA, a consortium of Powertek Berhad of Malaysia and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH of Germany, Chevron Corporation of USA, YTL Power International Berhad of Malaysia, and a consortium of Summit Industrial and Mercantile Corp. (Pvt) Ltd of Bangladesh and GE Energy LLC of USA.
The 450-mw Bibiyana IPP (independent power producer) project will be implemented on the build-own-operate (BOO) basis pursuant to a twenty-two years power purchase agreement.
An evaluation committee, headed by the director general (DG) of the power cell, will evaluate the documents submitted by the six applicants.
The evaluation committee will start its review of the documents on November 11.
The names of pre-qualified applicants will be announced within two weeks.
"Those companies that meet the pre-qualification criteria will be allowed to participate in the bidding to select an eligible developer for the 450 MW Bibiyana IPP project," the press release further said.
The bidding is scheduled to take place during the first quarter of 2008.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is the government's adviser on this project.
