Six to walk gallows, two get life

A speedy trial tribunal in the city on Tuesday awarded death sentence to six people and life term imprisonment to two others in a case for killing an employee of the telecom section of Rajarbagh Police Lines eight years ago, reports UNB.
The condemned convicts are Abdul Latif, accountant of the telecom section, M Hafizul Hossain, an office assistant, Anwar Hossain, superintendent of AGB office, M Wasim M Kajol Mia and Babul alias Tapan Chakrawarty.
Of them, Abdul Latif and M Hafizul Hossain have been on the run since they were granted bails by the court. Babul alias Tapan Chakrawarty is also on the run while M Wasim and M Kajol Mia are in jail.
The lifers are M Shamsul Alam, now in jail, and Ripan Mian, now absconding.
Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 Judge Shahed Nur Uddin delivered the verdict after examining evidence on murder of Golam Shamsul Haider on September 5, 2006.
