SMEF to take move to explore int'l market

Small and Medium Enterprises Foundation (SMEF) will take required move to explore international market for locally produced light engineering products due to global demand, a press release said.
"We have already taken initiatives to export our light engineering products by exchanging high technology globally," the release quoted Syed Rezwanul Kabir, managing director of SMEF, to have said.
The SMEF will provide all assistance regarding increasing the technological skill of the industry people, he said at a meeting with leaders of Bangladesh Engineering Industry Owners Association (BEIOA) in the city Wednesday.
Lack of infrastructural facilities, fund, necessary guidelines, high technology and training opportunity are the main obstacles to the development of the industry, Abdur Razzaque, president of BEIOA said.
He also demanded withdrawal of duty on raw materials such as aluminium, zinc, bronze, pig iron, scrap which are imported.
The industry leaders claimed an industry-friendly duty structure for further development of the sector.
BEIOA vice presidents, Ali Akbar and Ashraf Ibn Noor and SMEF deputy general manager, Nurul Kadir, among others, were present in the meeting.
