The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) issued a warning on Friday that stern legal action would be taken if anyone tried to disrupt the law-and-order situation and create public sufferings therewith.

Addressing those on the ongoing movement for reform of the quota system in government jobs, DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman voiced the warning.

"There is an obligation for all to abide by the court order. It will not be tolerated if anyone tries to disrupt the law and order," he said while addressing virtually a programme titled 'Walton -CRAB Sports Festival and Fruits Fair' at CRAB office in the capital's Segunbagi-cha area.

"The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court gave a status quo order for one month on the High Court verdict on the quota system in government jobs. The issue of quota system in government services is now pending with the court for settlement. We must keep trust in the court. There is an obligation to follow the court verdict. I think we should all follow that," he maintained.

The DMP chief appreciated journalists for cooperating with the police through writing investigative reports.

Sports and cultural affairs secretary of the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh or CRAB Raqibul Islam Manik moderated the event also attended by its president Kamruzzaman Khan and general secretary Sirajul Islam and others.
