Stranded tourists return from St Martin's Island

COX'S BAZAR, Nov: 11: About. 1200 tourists stranded on the Saint Martin's Island due to the recent inclement weather have reach in Teknaf safely.

According to sources, after being stranded for four days the tourists were brought back Monday evening by three cruise ships.

The three ships Keari Cruise Daine, The Atlantic and FV Farhan reached Saint Martin's jetty on Monday noon from Teknaf.

Most of the tourists were students of different colleges and universities. They landed at the Teknaf jetty from ships at around 5:20 pm Monday. Some of the tourists talked to reporters after arrival from the dream island.

"We were fine in the island as we got good co-operation from local administration," tourist Nazrul Islam (42) of Dhaka told newsmen. Sharif Uddin (22), student of Dhaka University, said, "We had regular contact with our family members on cell phone, so we did not feel any tension in last four days,".

"By the order of local administration hotel and restaurant owners gave us special discount on room fare and foods. So we had no problem", Selina Amin of Cumilla said.

UNO of Teknaf upazila Saiful Islam told the FE that all stranded tourists returned from St Martin's to Teknaf on Monday evening. They were going back home.

About 3,000 tourists went to St Martin's for a tour on last Thursday by the three cruise ships from Teknaf. Of them, 1,800 tourists returned to Teknaf the same day

The remaining 1,200 tourists stayed in the Island to pass night. But due to the cyclone 'Bulbul' the Met office hoisted the signal number 4. Later Cox's Bazar district administration banned ship transportation on the Teknaf-Saint Martin's route on Friday.
