Student, money exchange owner killed in city

One college student and an owner of a currency exchange house were killed in two separate incidents in the city's Arambagh and Gulshan areas Thursday.
Police said they recovered the bloodstained body of a student of Dhaka Notre Dame College, Azizul Hakim, from the stairs of 3rd floor of a 7-storey building at Arambagh in the city's Motijheel area at about 1pm.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy. Motives behind the killing could not be known immediately.
Abul Kalam, father of the victim, told reporters at the hospital that Hakim came out from their Manda residence in the city saying that he was going to his college in the morning but never returned.
After watching news on the killing telecasted by a private TV channels, Kalam went to the DMCH and identified the body of his son.
In another incident, a gang of snatchers in a private car intercepted the rickshaw that was carrying Faruk Ahmed, owner of Much Money Exchange, his driver Anisur Rahman Rana, and an employee Lukman at the crossing of road no-84 in Gulshan.
The snatchers shot at them when they refused to hand over a bag containing Tk 200, 000 in cash and left Faruk and Rana critically injured. But Lukman escaped during the shooting.
Both the injured were admitted to the United Hospital of Gulshan. Later Faruk was shifted to the National Cardiovascular Institute where he succumbed to his injuries at about 5am Thursday.
Local people, who chased the snatchers-driven private car after hearing the gunshots, managed to catch the vehicle as the gang fled away after leaving it at about 10pm and informed the police.
Later, police sized the car and recovered one pistol along with two round of bullet from inside the car. But they could not arrest the culprits involved in the shooting incident.
Talking to the FE, sub-inspector of Gulshan police station Akhter Hossain said, who is also the investigation officer of the incident, said that drives are going on to arrest the gang.
