The 'Students Against Discrimination' movement continued its 'relief collection from the masses' programme at Dhaka University's Teacher-Student Center (TSC) on Friday to support flood-affected people in the eastern and southeastern districts of the country.

People from various backgrounds donated relief items and cash to the movement according to their means. Many students volunteered their time to assist in the effort.

Apart from food items and other supplies, students collected around Tk 8.6 million till Friday night.

The campaign began on Thursday. After collecting relief materials throughout the day, representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement went to the flood-affected areas with trucks loaded with relief supplies from TSC on Thursday night.

Representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement travelled to the affected areas in 200 speedboats to participate in rescue operations.

Trucks were used to transport water, dry food, medicines, life jackets and other emergency supplies to the flood-affected people.

Abu Baker Majumdar, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, announced the initiative to collect public relief on Wednesday following the onset of the floods in the eastern part of the country.

Baker urged all coordinators and volunteers of the movement to collaborate with local volunteer organisations and the public in their respective districts and upazilas to form volunteer groups.

The central delegation will coordinate with all individuals in the flood-affected areas to conduct rescue operations and relief distribution activities, according to a press release by the movement.

Apart from the 'Student Against Discrimination', students from various departments of Dhaka University are also collecting relief on their own initiative.
