Subsidy worth Tk 3.28b disbursed last fiscal

The government has disbursed a record amount of cash incentive worth Tk 3.28 billion against the export of selected items in 2006-07 fiscal year, sources said.
The highest amount of incentive worth Tk 1.1 billion was disbursed against frozen food export followed by Tk 816 million against jute and jute goods export by the private sector.
Some Tk 681.9 million was disbursed against textile sector, Tk 360 million against leather and leather products, Tk 170 million against agricultural products, Tk 608 million against agro-processing items, Tk 506 million against tobacco, Tk 101 million against 'hogla' (rush mats) and straw, Tk 5.5 million against jute and jute goods exported by the public sector, Tk 2.54 million against bone powder and Tk 0.88 million against export of potato.
An arrear amount of subsidy worth Tk 4.74 billion remained pending with the central bank until September 30, 2007. The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has recently asked the ministry of finance to settle the arrears, sources said.
The disbursed amount of cash incentive in the last fiscal was the highest since 2001-02 fiscal. Cash incentive of Tk 1.41 billion disbursed in 2005-06 fiscal was the previous highest in the last five fiscal years, sources said.
The government offered cash supports, ranging between 5.0 and 20 per cent of the export value to different export oriented sectors, aimed at boosting the country's export business that earned more than US$12 billion in the last fiscal.
At present, it offers 5.0 per cent cash incentive on export of textile, 7.5 per cent on jute goods, 10 per cent on frozen foods, tobacco, engineering products and potato, 15 per cent on export of leather and leather goods, bicycle, bone powder, hatching egg and day-old chicks.
The 15 per cent to 20 per cent cash incentive has been offered on export on bulrush and straw.
