President Abdul Hamid urged the law enforcement agencies on Thursday to take stern legal actions against those killing people by hurling petrol bombs and torching vehicles as they are the enemies of democracy, reports UNB.
"You know the people of Bangladesh are democracy-loving. So was our Liberation War aim. Having differences of opinion in a democratic society is normal and that's the beauty of democracy. That's why it's important to adhere to democratic norms and values, including tolerance, mutual respect," he said.
The President was addressing police officials at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on the occasion of Annual Police Week-2015.
Hamid said, "But I'm shocked and hurt along with the people of the country the way recently innocent people have been killed through hurling petrol bombs and torching vehicles. The people who are involved in the atrocities are the enemies of democracy, humanity and civilisation."
"I'm urging law enforcement agencies to take stern legal actions against them. At the same time, I'm requesting the people of the country to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies in this regard," he added.
Mentioning that the people of the world are worried over terrorism and militancy in the changing world, the President said this clique, impediment to peace and prosperity, is not limited to any specific area of a country. Terrorism and militancy have emerged a global problem.
