BNP threatened on Saturday to put up a strong resistance against the government if it does not respond to the opposition's call for holding a fresh inclusive election through talks, reports UNB.
"We want to warn the government that there'll be a serious movement if our call for holding a fresh election with the participation of all is ignored considering it our weakness," said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Addressing a press briefing at party's Nayapaltan central office, he also alleged that Awami League does not believe that there is a place for discussion in democracy.
Rizvi apparently issued the threat as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday ruled out the possibility of holding any dialogue with BNP over holding a fresh election.
Pointing at Sheikh Hasina, Rizvi said, "You're terming the opposition movement terrorist acts. Then what will you call the seven murders by the son-in-law of a minister, Ekram killing in Feni, killings in Mirpur's Kalshi, and killing of Biswajit by your party men."
He alleged that the government is continuously repressing the opposition leaders and activists in its desperate bid to hang onto power.
