Task force meeting today

The task force, formed to review commodity prices and market behaviour and do whatever deemed fit to keep supplies within people's purchasing power, is set to meet today (Sunday).
State minister for commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu along with the task-force members is expected to attend the meeting with traders and trade bodies to assess the latest kitchen market situation.
Commerce ministry senior secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh will chair the meeting to take possible steps to strengthen monitoring and create a competitive commodity market.
The meeting will discuss supplies and the price situation of commodities during the ongoing fasting month
of Ramadan and the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr.
Consumers have been suffering a lot for an unusual hike in the prices of key commodities, especially edible oil, sugar and egg, for the last couple of months.
"We've taken initiatives to keep the prices stable throughout the year. Sunday's meeting would analyse the price and supply situation of commodities," said a senior commerce ministry official on Saturday.
The market volatility needs to be brought under control in the interest of the common people, he added.
Representatives from top importers, retailers and wholesalers are also expected to join the meeting.
