The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has given each tax office a target to help bring an additional 425,000 new individuals under the tax net by the end of this fiscal.
The NBR has set the target for 16 tax zone offices in Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, Barisal and Rangpur.
As part of the drive the NBR began a door-to-door survey in August 16 in the capital city.
Eight tax zones in the capital city have been given the target to net 0.2 million new taxpayers while three tax zones under Chittagong division will find out 90,000 new taxpayers.
Income tax offices under Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna will have to net 20,000 new taxpayers each while Barisal 15,000 and Rangpur 10,000 taxpayers.
The NBR officials said the tax inspectors will conduct the survey carefully without creating any public nuisance.
"All tax inspectors will carry their professional identification card so that they could easily conduct the door-to-door survey," said a senior tax official.
The NBR is planning to outsource the members of survey teams due to manpower shortage in the income tax department, he said.
The government has set a target to bring a total of 1.0 million individual taxpayers under tax net by this fiscal, he said.
