The tax authority deferred Sunday the meeting with Nobel laureate economist Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus until April 13, 2015 to discuss income tax-related disputes.
The income tax commissioner concerned set the new date at the request of his (Yunus) tax lawyer who met the taxmen Sunday responding to a letter sent earlier.
Tax commissioner Meftah Uddin fixed the date after lawyer Mahbubur Rahman sought more time on the grounds that Dr Yunus is not now in the country.
But the tax lawyer didn't make any commitment on payment of the claimed gift taxes worth Tk 113 million.
NBR sent a letter to Dr Yunus last Sunday to discuss realisation of their claimed taxes.
However, the tax demand is still disputed as Dr Yunus has filed a reference case with the High Court (HC) under Section 161 after the taxes appellate tribunal had pronounced its verdict in favour of taxmen.
The income tax wing claimed the tax after assessing personal tax file of Dr Yunus, the founder of Grameen Bank.
