The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started appointing dealers in 37 districts including Dhaka city, official sources said.
"We have already appointed 18 dealers for Dhaka city and started supplying to them some essential commodities," Mirza Fazlul Karim Begh, chief officer of TCB, told the FE Thursday. The move aims at boosting supply of essentials ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
Besides, the TCB has primarily selected 117 firms for appointment as dealers in 36 districts.
"We have asked the deputy commissioners (DCs) concerned to send their opinion on the selected dealers prior to issuing them letters," he said.
When asked, Begh said the TCB has received a total of 459 applications for dealership from 37 districts.
However, TCB officials said they will soon market 500 tonnes of soybean oil and 1100 tonnes of lentil.
"We have also floated local and international tenders for supplying another 2000 tonnes of lentil, 400 tonnes of gram and 500 tonnes of onion to boost supply of the commodities during the Ramadan," he said.
