TCB starts sales drive today

The government is set to start selling five key essential items among 10-million low-income cardholding families today (Sunday).

State minister for commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu is expected to inaugurate the month-long drive at Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni playground, Pallabi, at 9:30 am.

The items, including edible oil, lentil, sugar and rice, will be sold by the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), according to a statement issued by the state entity on Saturday.

Each cardholder can buy a maximum of 2.0 litres of soybean oil at Tk 100 per litre, 2.0-kg lentil at Tk 60 per kg and 1.0-kg sugar at Tk 70 per kg.

Besides, they also can purchase 5.0-kilo rice at Tk 30 per kg from specific TCB points.

Commerce secretary, among others, is also expected to present at the inaugural programme.

TCB dealers will operate sales activities from their shops or selected points as per schedule with the support of the city and local-government authorities.
