TCB starts selling some selective items today

FE ReportbrThe state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) launches the sale of some selective commodities including soybean oil, onion and sugar from today (Tuesday) in order to help the consumers of middle and lower middle income group purchase their requirements at fair prices during holy month of Ramadan.brThe TCB will carry out its sales operation from mobile vans at key points of divisional headquarters --Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna and Rajshahi, targeting low and limited income group, says a TCB press release Monday. brBesides, it will also sell the essential items in the districts where it has its own dealers.brThe outlets will remain open every day except Friday. brThese outlets will sell sugar at Tk 30 per kg, gram at Tk 50 per kg and onion at 20 per kg. A plastic container containing two litres of soybean oil has been fixed at Tk 216, a five-litre container at Tk 540 and an eight -litre container at Tk 864. brThe TCB's sales is a part of the government's current move to support the poor and limited-income groups of people and also counter the further escalation of the commodity prices during the holy month, an official of TCB said.brAccording to officials, the TCB will sell 3000 tonnes of edible oil, 3000 tonnes of pulses (lentil), 500 tonnes of gram and 500 tonnes of sugar during Ramadan.brMeanwhile, UNB adds The government introduced a special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme to help the poor in the month of Ramadan, alongside other relief measures for the holy month of fasting.brUnder the feeding recipe, 75,000 tonnes of rice will be distributed among poor people through 7.0 million VGF cards, said an official announcement Monday, on the eve of the start of Ramadan tomorrow. brA total of 1,500 cards will be distributed in each union of 22 districts, including the districts which were worst affected by floods, cyclone Sidr and Monga.brThe BGMEA will start their rationing for the workers of the garment industries from the first Ramadan.brEach garment factory worker will get 3.7 kg of rice at Tk 100, 500 gm of lentil at Tk 40 and 400 gm of chickpea at Tk 20. One having ID card will get these three items once a week from 11 am to 4pm.brThe items will be distributed from 11 centres, nine in Dhaka and two in Chittagong.br
