The living legend of world cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, Tuesday unveiled the logo of a newly named Dhaka Premier Division Cricket club, Legends of Rupganj, reports UNB.
Indian batting sensation Tendulkar reached Hazrat Shahjajal International Airport in Dhaka by a chartered flight Tuesday at 11 am and spent busy hours during his daylong trip to Bangladesh.
The owner of Gazi Tank Cricketers, Lutfar Rahman Badal, took the initiative to bring Tendulkar to Dhaka in a bid to create hype and cricket frenzy after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) approved the application to change the name of Gazi Tank Cricketers as 'Legends of Rupganj'.
Addressing the logo unveiling ceremony at Sonargoan Hotel, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar said visiting Bangladesh is always very special for him as he has some great memories here.
He said: "Visiting Bangladesh is always special to me. I got the 100th international century here… I was given huge honour by the Prime Minister and the people of Bangladesh are very friendly and supportive."
Indian master batsman Sachin Tendulkar reached the historical milestone of 100th international century in Dhaka in 2012 in the Asia Cup Cricket.
Planning Minister and ICC president AHM Mustafa Kamal, State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder, Chairman of NTV Mosaddek Ali Falu, Owner of "Legends of Rupganj" Lutfar Rahman Badal, famed Bangladeshi all rounder Shakib Al Hasan, national cricketers, BCB officials and club organisers were, among others, present at the logo unveiling ceremony.
Club owner Lutfur Rahman Badal, a good friend of Tendulkar, said: "It is an honour for my club that such a legendary cricketer has come to unveil the logo of my club,"
He said: "My vision is to take cricket to grassroots level. It's time to celebrate the journey. Sachin came to my mind when I decided to buy a cricket club."
An hour after his arrival in the capital Tuesday morning, master blaster Sachin was flown by helicopter to Nawapara Govt. Primary School in Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj, the home of 'Legends of Rupganj' and its owner Lutfar Rahman Badal.
During his half hour's stay in Rupganj, Tendulkar attended a health-awareness program of UNICEF, advised the school students about washing their hands before taking food and after using the toilet. He also talked about cricket.
Later, Sachin Tendulkar handed over a cheque of Tk 0.5 million to the Nawapara Govt. Primary School.
Dhaka Premier League champions Gazi Tank Cricketers will take part in this year's league under its new name 'Legends of Rupganj'.
Two years ago, sports organiser Lutfar Rahman Badal bought the ownership of Gazi Tank Cricketers which became champions in the premier league last year.
Badal later appealed to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) via Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolitan (CCDM) to change his club's name to 'Legends of Rupganj'.
