Test flow of natural gas from the third well of Shahbazpur gas field in Borhanuddin Upazilla under Bhola district, started from Sunday afternoon at a rate of 20 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), Petrobangla Chairman Hussain Monsur told the FE.
He said the natural gas pressure of the new well is good and currently it is around 3,000 per square inch (psi).
Drilling of the well, owned by state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (Bapex) started in May.
Petrobangla chairman hoped that commercial production of natural gas from this new well will start by December this year when an under construction gas-fired power plant will be ready for operation.
Gas is now being flowed from around 3,500 metres depth.
There might be another gas zone below the current one, said Mr Monsur.
Shahbazpur gas field has a reserve of around 465 billion cubic feet (Bcf).
Currently the gas field has two producing wells, which are presently supplying around 9.0 mmcfd of gas against their production capacity of 30 mmcfd.
