A three-day training programme on economic analysis kicked off in the city on Tuesday.
International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) organised the training programme at the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) secretariat.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) funded the programme through its project on Regional Trade and Agricultural Transformation in the Bay of Bengal Countries, said an IFPRI release.
The training marks a significant milestone following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between IFPRI and BIMSTEC for collaborative research, capacity strengthening and policy engagement.
Director of Agriculture & Food Security Division of the BIMSTEC Secretariat Tun Lynn Aung said economic analysis has become increasingly vital in today's complex and interconnected world.
He said it provides a systematic framework to assess the potential impacts of policies, programmes, and interventions on various sectors of the economy.
"By equipping ourselves with the tools and knowledge of economic analysis, we can effectively address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead," he said.
Dr Mamata Pradhan, research coordinator, IFPRI, said BIMSTEC overarching framework for regional and national development efforts calls for the promotion of analytical capacity to understand the possibilities in the BIMSTEC.
She added IFPRI remains dedicated to advancing research, capacity development, and policy advocacy to address the complex challenges faced by the agri-food system in the BIMSTEC region.
Through strategic partnerships and impactful initiatives, the institute continues to pave the way for evidence-based police solutions to shape a sustainable future across the region, she viewed.
