Three more die, 1,280 fresh cases reported

Fatalities from the Covid-19 jumped on Saturday with the health authority reporting three deaths from coronavirus disease on the day, a couple of days after a single death was reported from the deadly disease on Thursday.

The country reported 1,280 fresh cases of infection yesterday, according to the daily update issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday morning.

The infection rate from  the virul disease on the day jumped to 15.07 per cent from Friday's 12.18 per cent, the DGHS data showed.

On Friday, the country recorded zero deaths and 1,685 coronavirus infections.

The positivity rate of the disease was 14.32 per cent on Thursday and 13.30 per cent on Wednesday while 1,399 and 1,135 cases were recorded respectively on these two days.

A total of 8,494 samples were tested in the last 24 hours ending at 8:00 am on Saturday.

With the new infections, the country's total positive cases reached 1,963,493 while the death toll hit 29,138 since the disease was first detected in Bangladesh in early 2020.

Overall positivity rate now stood at 13.75 while the mortality rate remained static at 1.48 per cent and recovery rate stood at 97.1 per cent, the DGHS data showed.

Of the three deceased yesterday, two were women and the other person was a man. Two of them were from Dhaka division and the other from Barishal division.
