FE Report
Three RAB men, including an assistant director, were arrested early Friday and detained in prison on charges of extortion by threatening their victims of killing them in crossfire, police said.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Motijheel police station Syed Sajjad Selim said that Tk 0.698 million (Tk 6.98 lakh) were also recovered from an assistant director of RAB-3 unit and also assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Shoeb Ahmed, and two army soldiers Shahidul Islam and Shagor Chandra.
The plaintiff of the case Tajul Islam Hiran, a businessman, alleged in the first information report (FIR) that three persons identifying themselves as RAB personnel entered a passenger bus at Kamalapur and forced him to get down while he was going to his residence at Rampura at about 8 pm on Wednesday.
The RAB men then took Hiran into their jeep to Doyel Chattar and threatened to kill in crossfire after branding him a criminal. They also snatched away Tk 01.86 million from his possession before dropping him by the roadside.
Seeing no hope of getting the money back, Hiran filed a mugging case with the Motijheel Police Station Thursday accusing the RAB members and also lodged a complaint with RAB headquarters.
"One of the muggers wore RAB uniform and they had traveled in an ash-coloured Jeep," the FIR statement said.
Later, RAB-3 unit called the complainant to their office where Hiran identified the RAB extortionists in presence of the police.
