Thrust on exploring export markets abroad

Switzerland Bangladesh Business Forum (SBBF) Saturday held a meeting to discuss the possibility of exploring export markets abroad including the European countries for boosting the country's economy.
The discussion meeting on 'Problems, Prospect and Future of Bangladesh Economy' was organised in the city's Spectra Convention Centre with Ashfaque ur Rahman, president of SBBF, in the chair.
Abul Barakat, professor of Economics Department, and A K Azad Chowdhury, former vice chancellor, of Dhaka University presented two papers in the discussion meeting.
Saiful Islam, vice president of SBBF, delivered the vote of thanks while Mohammad Abul Hasnat, member of SBBF, was also present at the meeting.
The discussants at the meeting stressed the need for giving due attention to diversification of export products.
They said the government should take special measure on further growth of some sectors including leather, pharmaceuticals, jute, light engineering, handicrafts and tourism.
The speakers said it is time to take step to produce raw materials for pharmaceuticals as this sector has showed a remarkable growth in recent years.
Mentioning the declining trend in foreign aid in recent years, they said despite the fact that the influence of donors in government policy formulation persists and it is likely to create adverse effect on country's economy.
