TIB for govt clarification on black money legalising

FE Report

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Friday sought clarification from the government regarding the provision for legalising black money, following 'confusion' among people in absence of any clear mention about the same in the proposed budget.

Local chapter of the Berlin-based Transparency International also called for a government announcement on scrapping all sorts of direct and indirect scopes for whitening black money.

"Since, there is no mention about the issue of black money in the proposed budget, the government should clarify its position to this effect for removing the confusion," TIB said in a statement.

Citing media reports, TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekh- aruzzaman said: "We've come to know that the provision for legalising black money has been kept unchanged in the budget proposal, which is very unfortunate and against the anti-corruption stance of the Prime Minister."

TIB thinks a special law is needed for ensuring efficiency, transparency and accountability for management and control of the government expenditure.

The government should take immediate measures for approving a draft of the audit law after consultation with the stakeholders, the statement added.
