Tk 146.58 billion foreign assistance expected

The government is expecting Tk 146.58 billion (14,658 crore) as foreign assistance in the national budget for fiscal 2007-08 which is 13.2 per cent of total resources of Tk 796.14 billion.
The amount of expected foreign aid is Tk 25.32 billion higher than that of the original volume for fiscal 2006-07 budget and Tk 34.60 billion more than the revised one.
Out of the total foreign aid, Tk 42.55 billion (Tk 4255 crore) will come as grant from the donors which is 5.3 per cent of total projected resource in the new budget.
On the other hand, Tk 104.03 billion will be mobilised as loans from different bilateral and multilateral donors, which is 7.9 per cent of total expected resources in the budget.
Of the total aid component, an amount of Tk 129.75 billion will be spent for implementing Annual Development Programme (ADP) and the remaining Tk 16.83 billion for other purposes.
According to the projection in the new budget, Tk 102.88 billion is expected as project aid, Tk 4.20 billion as food aid, Tk 0.70 billion as commodity aid, Tk 21.0 billion as special support/credit for development, Tk 7.5 billion as miscellaneous fund and structural adjustment, Tk 8.75 billion as miscellaneous foreign loan and Tk 0.55 billion as other aid.
Meanwhile, the Finance Adviser, Mirza Aziz, in his budget speech Thursday underlined the need for improving the project implementation capacity of the project executing agencies in the government.
