The government declared on Sunday incentives to the tune of more than Tk 799 million (79.9 crore) in the form of seeds and fertiliser for cultivation of adequate Rabi crops.
Over 0.69 million (6.9 lakh) small and marginal farmers in 64 districts will reap the benefits to grow cereals like wheat, maize, mustard, lentil, brinjal and pea.
The allocation will be utilised for purchasing seeds and Di Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MOP) for Rabi farming.
Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury at a press briefing at her ministry declared the incentives in kind for the peasantry.
Each farmer having one bigha of land will come under the benefits package to purchase agriculture inputs.
Ms Chowdhury said the incentives were aimed at encouraging the farmers to grow more Rabi crops and also to expand areas for such farming.
The support would also help the farmers produce diverse crops and boost their earnings, she mentioned.
"The incentives for the farmers will help ensure sustainable agriculture and their socio-economic development that will strengthen the country's agro-based economy," she said.
The benefits in kind will be disbursed from the budget of the agriculture ministry.
Under the package, a farmer will get 20 kilograms of seed, 20kg DAP and 10kg MOP for wheat cultivation on one bigha of land.
For maize farming, each farmer will receive two kilograms of seed, 20kg DAP and 10kg MOP.
One kilogram of seeds, 20kg DAP and 10kg MOP will be allocated to each grower of mustard on one bigha of land.
Each farmer will receive five kilograms of seed, 10kg DAP and five kilograms of MOP for cultivation of winter pea on one bigha of land.
