Tk 94m gold seized at HSIA 2 passengers held

The customs intelligence unit detained two passengers and seized at least 18.764 kg gold from the green channel at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in city on Wednesday.

The gold was recovered from Emirate Airways flight "EK582" arriving at the HSIA from Dubai which landed at the airport around 8:30 am, Director-General of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Moinul Khan told the FE.

He said: "Our sources informed us that there was a large amount of smuggled gold in a flight of Emirates Airways".

Mr Khan said after getting the message the customs officials conducted a search and recovered 161 gold bars from the bodies of two passengers.

The detainees are Shamsuddin from Chandpur and Abu Syed from Chittagong, he said.

He said the estimated price of the seized gold is around Tk 94 million.
