During the recent Eid vacation, eleven people were killed and 60 injured as an express train crushed a bridal-party bus on a level crossing in Jhenidah. It was one of the worst accidents on such unprotected road-rail crossings lying in different areas across the country.
Saturday's fatal accident took place around noon when Barendra Express train knocked and ripped apart the locally-made auto-tempo, Bhatbhati, on the level crossing near Yasinpur Rail Station, agencies reported, quoting the local police.
"All the three victims died on the spot. The injured people were rushed to Natore Sadar Hospital," says a police account of the train-tempo collision.
Though there is a level crossing, no gateman was posted there, Basudev Banik, superintendent of police in Natore, was quoted as saying.
The victims were going to their relatives' house when the accident occurred.
