An express train running between Dhaka and Sylhet caught fire Tuesday noon, burning down its three compartments, reports UNB.

The Dhaka-bound 'Kalni Express' caught fire immediately after it had left the Airport Railway Station in the capital at 1:22 pm, said Dhaka divisional railway manager of Bangladesh Railway (BR), Kamrul Ahsan,

The fire originated from the gas cylinder of the restaurant of the train and spread to three adjacent compartments, he said.

On information, seven firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire within half an hour.

The fire was tamed by 1:56pm, but in the meanwhile, two of the compartments were totally burnt down and the other was partially damaged, said Kamrul Ahsan.

However, there was no report of any casualty in the incident.

BR director general Tofazzal Hossain said they had already formed a committee to investigate the fire incident and assess the losses.

The three-member committee, headed by BR chief engineer (East Zone), will submit its report within the next three working days, he added.
